Pilot Pocket Book 1, a collection of writing and illustrations by exciting
and distinct Canadian writers and illustrators. Our pretty,
bright-blue book, printed by Coach House Printing Company (on
their distinctive 7o lbs. Zepher paper), is small format so it
will fit in anyone’s pocket or purse for quick-draw
purposes. Pilot Pocket Book 1 is a sparkling good read: new writing for
the plane, train, or subway ride.
There is a movement in Canadian literature
toward the deeply personal, frank and fearless that calls on
the traditional storytelling styles of earlier generations. The
authors in this collection are driven both by a desire to
reveal something of themselves in their stories and a
commitment to the art of narrative. Whether real or fictional,
their characters are drawn with a clarity that is at times
uncomfortable, at times humorous, but always illuminating.
Coupled with the text are illustrations.
Rather than reiterate the content, the images interpret and
enlarge elements of these narratives. The illustrators were
enlisted for their ability to enhance the written word. Some of
the artwork within is not directly associated with the stories
as they are telling stories of their own and contribute
aesthetically and thematically to the book as a whole.
Pilot looks forward to seeing the work of
its contributors published everywhere. To find out more about
